Another Cake!

I made another cake today. That would be two cakes this week that I have made. I am excited how well the fondant turned out on this cake today. I believe I am beginning to figure out the tricks and I have began writing down everything I need to recreate the cake if need be in the future. (This cake is very similar to Brianne's 11/11/11 cake.)


This cake below is for a Mrs. Keck's daughter, Irelynn. Mrs. Keck hold a sweet place in our hearts. She was Victoria's, Caitlin and Brianne's 4th grade teacher at LES. This year her daughter is in Tiffany's kindergarten class and they have become good friends. Irelynn's birthday party is tomorrow, so I volunteered to make a cake for Mrs. Keck.

Tiffany Turns 6 years old!

This past week was Tiffany's 6th birthday! On Saturday she had a party with all of her girl friends. They painted canvas' with glue and decoupaged with scrapbook papers. I found this cute idea on Pinterest. You can find instructions here on how to make the cute wall hanging. We did ours a little different than the examples she showed. We also made the dangle bracelets on this site. It was really cute and the 5 year old girls handled the craft with ease. I really wanted to make the cuff bracelet but felt that was just too much for this age group to handle.

I made Tiffany's cake. Her cake was an 8 layer triple chocolate cake. It was very moist and delicious. I am still in the process of learning how to make cakes. This has been a fun little hobby. I am learning each time I make a cake. As a matter of fact I am making another cake for a friend today, for her daughter's birthday party tomorrow. I will post pictures.

I chose the bright colors and the butterfly theme because it reminded me of Tiffany. She is so precious. She is sweet. She is caring and oh so loving. She tells us daily that she loves us and gives us hugs and kisses. She enjoys snuggling. She wants to help around the house. She doesn't judge others. She isn't opinionated. She is genuinely happy. Her giggle is infectious. She is just so pure. I love being around her.

If you click on the picture you can see that we didn't use paints as the website did. I simply painted on the heart with joint compound, two days before the party. We just kept it easy and applied glue to the canvas and then stuck on ripped scrapbook papers. The girls did a really nice job on their project.

At school her teacher gave her the crown she is wearing in the photo. She was excited to hear her name on the morning announcements. I ate lunch with her at school, she requested Wendy's. We brought cupcakes for her classmates and she was so excited to hand them out!

"Up on The Roof Top"

One of our girl's favorite pass times is sitting on the garage roof. I don't know why...so don't ask. It really makes me nervous with them sitting on the roof. However, their father seems to think it's fine. I finally agreed a couple of years ago to let the older kids sit up there, and I am not so nervous anymore because they have proven to me they know what they are doing and they are quite safe climbing up and and down. I really was fine with it, UNTIL I FOUND THIS PHOTOGRAPH ON THE TWINS CAMERA....

December Highlights

We had so much going on in the month of December, I had to go back and look through my photo files to help me remember everything we did!

My niece Marley turned 18! I threw her a party at our home. I also made her cake! I have to say, personally I think it looks like a cake for a 5 year old. She picked out the blue and yellow as the main colors and asked for stripes. One of my daughters said it looked like IKEA. So, I quickly scrapped the stripes and we went for polka-dots. It was an eight layer triple chocolate cake and wow, was it delicious!





This past holiday season I made the traditional Turner family goodies. I made white chocolate peppermint fudge, Heath Toffee fudge and Fredrick & Nelson mint Frango fudge. It is my favorite. I also whipped together three dozen Grandma Carpenter sugar cookies, a batch of Grandpa Sander caramels and four huge loaves of Swedish Bread. It was all so good. We love the holidays and these fun traditions.


One night our doorbell rang around 10pm. We opened the door to find someone had left us a Christmas surprise! The girls absolutely loved it!


On Christmas Eve, Tiffany wrote a letter to Santa and she left him a tree shaped sugar cookie and a glass of strawberry milk. We gathered at my parents home with my brother Greg and his wife Rosanne and their kids who were visiting from Pennsylvania for the holidays. After the Christmas Eve party we returned home to read from the Bible, set a Santa trap and read Twas the Night Before Christmas!

On Christmas morning we had time to see what Santa brought, but that was about it. Ron had Bishopric meeting and we needed to be at church by 9am. After church Dad counted tithing and we all patiently waited for him to come home from church. We finally opened gifts about 1:00. After gifts we did our annual Polar Bear Swim. OH...it was so cold outside and the water was even colder! After the swim we jumped into the spa to warm up! Then the brave souls had a great time jumping from the spa into the pool and back into the spa!



Tiffany received the bike she had been asking Santa to bring, Brianne received a pogo stick and the twins and Tori all received new hair toys!

We celebrated Marley's 18th birthday again with her family! (Yes, this is the bottom layer of her cake from her first party. It froze very well.)

We had the family Christmas dinner at our home. It was so nice being with my brother Greg and his family.

The day after Christmas, the girls had what they called,"Post Christmas Depression". Haha! So, I looked at Ron and said,"I think we need some Mexican food. Not, just any Mexican food, but we need Casa Rio Mexican food." We just laughed and said, "Girl's go get your shoes on! We are leaving for San Antonio and the Riverwalk, within the hour!!" They looked at us like we were crazy. It is about a 3 hour drive. So, that is what we did, and it was so fun! The Riverwalk was so beautiful. They had LED colored Christmas lights strung on all of the huge trees along the river. The reflections on the river was gorgeous and yes Casa Rio, was delicious!

On the 29th, we celebrated my niece Bailey's 13th birthday! We threw (literally) this cake together in about 20 minutes. The fondant was too runny (I didn't add enough powdered sugar) and so it looks terrible. But, it was another triple chocolate cake and it was delightful!

For New Year's Eve I chaperoned a Stake Dance, and I took the older kids with me! Ron and the little ones went to my parents to hang out with Greg and Rosanne. We all met up at midnight for Greg's firework display!

Greg and Rosanne left on New Year's Day. We didn't want Marley and Mom and Dad feeling blue, so we invited them over for dinner and the annual wii bowling championship! Take a look who is the reigning champ?! ME! I beat Tori by one point! It was quite the game.
